Betty White named AP Entertainer of the Year
Hollywood actress Betty White was named Entertainer of the Year by the Associated Press (AP) for this year.
What Betty White did in 2010 doesn't usually happen, the AP said.
But more than acclaim, her unlikely, age-defying success resonated deeply with people who saw in her a spirited, hilarious aberration, a woman not dimmed by age but enhanced by it: The genuine article in a pop culture awash in imitators.
Betty White received 20 votes to beat the cast of the Fox musical hit Glee by two votes out of the 102 votes cast by members of news organization. Taylor Swift, Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert were previous recipients of the award.
This year saw White becoming popular on Facebook after a successful campaign for her to host the Saturday Night Live, with 500, 000 Facebook users backing her up. Her stint at SNL drew 12. 1 million viewers, one of the highest rating that the show had received. White has also appeared in the Snickers Super Bowl advertisement.
The actress is famous for her role in The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
