The latest casting news for “The Wiz” indicates that Beyoncé was offered to play a major role in the NBC live musical.

According to Us Weekly, the multi-awarded singer was offered the role of Glinda the Good Witch. Since the show debuted on Broadway in 1975, “The Wiz” character Glinda was played by two Grammy winners, jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater who was the first to play the role, and Lena Horne, who played the part in the 1978 movie.

Several music, Hollywood and Broadway greats have already confirmed their participation in the NBC live musical. Mary J. Blige is set to play the Wicked Witch of the West, Evillene, while Queen Latifah will be playing the titular role of the Wizard. Meanwhile, Broadway star Stephanie Mills, who originally played Dorothy, will be playing Auntie Em in the NBC revival.

This would not be the first time that Beyonce performed select songs from the 1970s musical, Vanity Fair reported. While performing in a Houston talent competition, the then 7-year-old Beyonce sang “Home.” Should Beyonce opt to take the role, she will be performing the songs “A Rested Body Is a Rested Mind" and "Believe in Yourself."

Meanwhile, sources told E!News that producers are also eyeing “Orange is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba for the role. Before joining the Netflix series, Aduba was on Broadway and starred in a revival of “Godspell.” The actress also has an amazing voice that would be perfect for the stage.

The NBC live musical “The Wiz” will be executive-produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, in partnership with Cirque du Soleil. Zadan and Meron were responsible for the musical hits “Smash,” “Sound of Music” and “Peter Pan.” The musical is also set for a Broadway revival during the 2016-2017 season.

“The Wiz” is set to air on NBC on Dec. 3.
