With the rise of people jumping on the plant-based protein bandwagon, it can be tough to determine which one is healthier and decide which one to pick.

Right now, the two top contenders are Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat—both of which have their own line of vegan burger patties. Here is a comparison of these two top brands to help you decide which is healthier.

Ingredients

The Impossible Burger patty contains mostly organic ingredients while Beyond Meat’s Burger patty doesn’t. However, Beyond Meat’s Burger patty is strictly non-GMO, while Impossible Foods recently faced backlash because they’d been using genetically modified ingredients that contained the pesticide glyphosate.

Are They Vegan

Both the Impossible Burger patty and Beyond Meat’s Burger patty are both vegan as they are advertised as plant-based alternatives to meat.

Calorie Content

Both the patties of Beyond Meat Burger and Impossible Burger have roughly the same amount of calories with the former containing 250 calories and the latter containing 240 calories. Compared to a Burger King beef patty, which is 240 calories, Beyond Meat’s Burger patty holds 10 more calories.

Fat Content

In terms of fat content, an Impossible Burger patty has 14g of fat while the Beyond Burger patty has 18g of fat. Compared to a Burger King beef patty, Beyond Meat’s Burger patty has the same amount of fat at 18g.

Saturated Fat

While Beyond Meat’s Burger patty has a higher fat content compared to the Impossible Burger patty, Impossible Burger’s patty has more saturated fat. Beyond Burger has 6g of saturated fat while the Impossible Burger patty has the same saturated fat content as a Burger King beef patty at 8g.

Cholesterol Levels

Since both Beyond Meat’s Burger patty and Impossible Burger patty are plant-based, they are both completely free of cholesterol

Sodium Levels

Something that may surprise health-conscious customers is the level of sodium found in the plant-based patties. For reference, a Burger King beef patty has 230mg of sodium while the Beyond Meat Burger patty has 390mg of sodium and the Impossible Burger patty has 370mg of sodium. The plant-based patties both hold more sodium than their meaty counterparts.

Protein Content

Protein is one of the most important things that Americans are seeking to add to their diet. Beyond Meat’s Burger patty and the Impossible Burger patty have 20g and 19g of protein, respectively. A Burger King Beef patty has 20g of protein so in this regard, Beyond Meat has Impossible Burger beat.

Carbs

In terms of carbs, Impossible Burger patty has thrice the amount of carbs in Beyond Meat’s Burger patty. Beyond Meat’s Burger patty has 3g of carbs while the Impossible Burger patty has 9g.

Taste
