Is ‘BH90210’ Reboot Series In Trouble? Why Show Could Be Canceled Before Premiere
The drama that had unfolded behind-the-scenes of the original show was considered legendary, but it appears similar issues may be happening with the new reboot series, “BH90210.”
According to Variety, the reboot, which reunites the entire original cast of the 90s show with the exception of Luke Perry, who passed away in March, has dealt with so much drama behind-the-scenes that both the showrunner, Patrick Sean Smith, as well as several senior writers, have all left the six-episode reboot.
The publication notes that an exact reason for the exodus has not been revealed, but that a source did mention that there was a dispute over interference from two of the show’s lead actresses, while another stated that the writers were unhappy with one of the executives that are overseeing the entire series.
Smith has already been replaced by Paul Sciarrotta, who is set to work with the show's creators, Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler.
While no specific members of the cast were mentioned when it came to the new drama, it is reminiscent of some of what played out on the set of the original series, specifically between Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty, who had such a bad conflict that the latter wound up leaving the show after four seasons.
In her memoir, “Deep Thoughts From A Hollywood Blonde,” Garth revealed more about their alleged feud, admitting that their personalities were like “gasoline and a match,” and admitting that one incident between them did almost lead to a catfight before it was broken up by co-stars Jason Priestley and Perry.
“I don’t know why it is, but there is a universal truth that when you put three teenage girls together, some serious s—t is going to go down,” she wrote at the time. “[Shannen] had opinions about a lot of things, including the writing, the wardrobe, you name it. And she wasn’t afraid to share them, even if it meant sounding like a complete and utter b---h.”
For now, despite the drama, the reboot series still seems on track for its planned premiere date of August 7 on FOX.
