KEY POINTS

  • Last year Trump approved the new slogan for his relection campaign: "Keep America Great"
  • The Trump campaign failed to register the slogan as a domain name
  • Joe Biden's campaign bought the rights to the domain and are using it to troll Trump

President Donald Trump officially launched his reelection campaign back in June 2019 along with a new, easy-to-remember slogan: "Keep America Great."

While it didn't catch-on as much as Trump's iconic "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) slogan from 2016, KAG seemed to grow on Trump's base over time. The trouble was someone in the Trump campaign forgot to register the slogan as an internet domain name.

Democratic challenger Joe Biden's campaign discovered the oversight and registered the domain name with ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) through a domain name registrar.

With the legal right to use the URL "www.keepamericagreat.com," Democrats have launched a new web site and are using to blast and troll Trump.

The website's name also features a clever twist on Trump's original slogan, "Promises Made, Promises Kept." The Dems' version reads, "Promises Made, Promises Kept Broken."

The website subhead says, "Trump isn’t looking for a second term - he’s looking for a do-over. Here’s how Trump’s record stacks up against the promises he made to the American people:"

What follows is a list of 12 key promises Trump hasn't fulfilled. For example, by clicking on Trump's 2016 statement “we are going to drain the swamp in Washington, D.C.” what appears is: "President Trump is the most corrupt president in history. He and his family have profited immensely off taxpayer money while he’s been in office, he’s filled his administration with more than 350 lobbyists, and multiple Trump associates have been found guilty of major crimes."

Republicans, however, once did the same thing to Biden. They registered the domain name "todosconbiden.com" immediately after Biden announced his Latino outreach program, called “Todos Con Biden.”

In hindsight, it seems Trump should have stuck with MAGA. His comments when he announced KAG indicated he felt ill at ease with the new slogan.

“How do you give up the greatest theme of all time with a new theme?” asked Trump. “If I lose, people are going to say what a mistake that was. But we’re not going to lose, so it’s not going to matter.”

Most current national polls show Trump trailing Biden heading into the Nov. 3 election.
