“Big Bang Theory” star Mayim Bialik recently penned an educational and inspiring essay about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on her blog, Grok Nation.

In her blog post, Bialik quoted Lady Gaga, who revealed in November that she was suffering from the psychological illness. While visiting a shelter for homeless LGBT teens, the “Born This Way” singer shared that she was raped at the age of 19. It was only seven years later that she finally got the courage to talk about the incident. Gaga then wrote the song “Til It Happens To You,” which was featured in “The Hunting Ground,” a movie that tackles the ramifications of sexual assault.

Meanwhile, Bialik related PTSD and Gaga’s confession to her degree in neuroscience. More specifically, the actress specialized in psychoneuroendrocrinology, where she had to study PTSD as part of her thesis. She went on to explain what it’s like for people to have PTSD, its symptoms, as well as its effects.

“If a person has been exposed to a traumatic event, they will experience repeated and intrusive memories of the event both in real life and in dreams. They will have the feeling as if the traumatic event were actually happening again and they may have illusions, hallucinations and flashback episodes,” she wrote.

Toward the end of her blog post, Bialik reminded her readers to support those who are suffering from the condition, as well as other mental illness. The actress is also hoping that the world will eventually become stigma-free when it comes to PTSD.

Meanwhile, “Big Bang Theory” Season 10 will return with episode 11 on Dec. 15. In “The Birthday Synchronicity,” Amy (Bialik) will celebrate her birthday, expecting that she and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) will have sex. Unfortunately, they will be preoccupied with the arrival of Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Howard’s (Simon Helberg) baby so coitus won’t happen this year.

“The Big Bang Theory” Season 10, episode 11 will air on CBS on Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. EST.
