Billboard Music Awards 2013: All The Fashion On The Billboards Red (Er, Blue) Carpet [PHOTOS]
Music’s hottest artists and bands came out in their best threads Sunday night at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, where Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Gotye were the biggest winners of the night.
Stars walked the blue carpet at the MGM Grand Garden Arena before the show, which was hosted by Tracy Morgan and featured performances by Prince, Swift, Justin Bieber (who was booed during his acceptance speech), Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Christina Aguilera and Selena Gomez.
Fabric was in short supply at the ceremony as many stars bared their chests, backs and buttocks in cutout, backless, frontless and high-slit dresses. Ke$ha took a cue from the much-discussed Antoni Berardi look Gwyneth Paltrow wore on the “Iron Man 3” premiere's red carpet two weeks ago; the singer wore a Givenchy little black dress with a bum-baring side slit, a trend that has been dubbed “side-butt” thanks to The Goop founder. Speaking of side skin, Jennifer Lopez, never one to cover up too much at big occasions, wore a gold Zuhair Murad dress with a deep-V neckline, though not as deep as her infamous green Versace dress at the 2000 Grammys (which has its own Wikipedia page). Actress Jenny McCarthy, another starlet not prone to cover up, wore a simple black tank top with a midriff-baring, deconstructed maxi skirt by Tom Ford for his Spring 2013 collection.
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez donned a white Atelier Versace dress with neon trimmings, a sheer asymmetrical cutout, and a high leg slit that showed off her killer legs. Carly Rae Jepsen took a similar approach with a sheer-paneled Dyanthe mini dress from the fall 2012 collection. Others eschewed cutouts and mesh but still dazzled: Taylor Swift bared her legs in a blue-sequined Zuhair Murad mini dress while Ariana Grande wore a strapless sequined A-line dress.
Sticking with her theme of not wearing pants since the 2013 Met Gala earlier this month, Madonna showed up in classic Madonna form in fishnets, sequins, a black bodysuit and a fur-collared jacket.
Some ladies, though, kept it quite demure on the red carpet, including Hayden Panettiere, in a black Halston Heritage gown; Jennifer Nettles, in a pale pink Georges Chakra dress; Emmy Rosum, in Zuhair Murad; and Nicki Minaj, who surprised many wearing a long red gown that slightly resembled Rihanna’s from this year’s Grammy Awards.
Miley Cyrus donned a black-and-white checkered and crocheted pantsuit from the Balmain Spring 2013 collection, which got mixed reviews from fans on social media. While many applauded the star for channeling one of this spring’s hottest trends, others called her a court jester. Another lady in a pantsuit was singer Nayer, who showed up wearing a black-and-white hooded jumpsuit with a deep-V cutout.
Who do you think was best-dressed -- and worst-dressed -- on the Billboards blue carpet?
