Billie Eilish is still having some major regrets from a few years ago when she posted insensitive comments online. Although the pop star has apologized for her actions, she admitted she continues to struggle with how she behaved.

In an interview with Vogue Australia, Eilish reflected on the backlash she received following the resurfacing of a video in which she was seen talking in a stereotypical Asian accent.

“I said so many things then that I totally don’t agree with now, or think the opposite thing,” she told the publication.

“The weirdest thing is how nothing ever goes away once it’s on the internet. Every interview I did when I was 15 is still out there, and I think about it constantly.”

While Eilish insists she has grown since making those insensitive remarks, she revealed the internet has made it difficult for her to move forward.

“It’s really weird how the world can see every aspect of your life and reminisce about [it]. It’s so weird,” she explained.

“The internet brings up things from everybody’s past and I’m like: ‘Don’t you guys understand that everybody is incredibly embarrassed and ashamed about their past? Like, do you not think about the fact that maybe you’re embarrassed of your past, so maybe everybody else is embarrassed, too?’”

This isn’t the first time Eilish has found it hard to deal with negativity online. In 2020, the singer told “BBC Breakfast” she stopped reading the comment section on Instagram to protect her mental health.

“It’s like way worse than it’s ever been right now.…I mean, it’s insane that I even have been reading comments up until this point. I should have stopped long ago,” she explained.

“It’s just the problem that I’ve always wanted to stay in touch with the fans and, like, keep talking to them, and people have ruined that for me. And for them. They’ve ruined it for them, and that sucks. I still try to like fans’ posts or whatever.”
