  • Bitmain announces a monstrous crypto mining rig
  • Dubbed as the Antminer E9, the product is specially made for mining Ethereum
  • Bitmain did not reveal the price or release date of the Antminer E9

Bitmain earlier revealed a new digital currency mining device designed to mine Ethereum. The new Antminer E9 intends to be one of the fastest ether mining devices in the market today while the Ethereum network slowly transitions to a proof-of-stake system.

The Chinese mining firm Bitmain has launched a teaser showcasing the upcoming Antminer E9 Ethereum miner. The company mentioned that it would launch the product soon but did not commit to any specific release date. The new product is the successor of Antminer E3 and features remarkable upgrades across the board.

This includes a hash rate of 3 GH/s, which is a huge leap from the E3's 180 MH/s hash rate. The impressive performance could be attributed to the extremely high power draw of 2,665W. The company claims the Antminer E9 provides 32 times more processing power than the GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card, which only offers 94 MH/s at 320W TDP.

Of course, Nvidia's graphics card is not designed for Ethereum mining but to play games -- a feat that ASICs like the Antminer E9 could not do. Based on these specs and if the newly announced product delivers on its promise, it could be the fastest ASIC miner available. Its performance pales that of Linzhi's Phoenix Ethash ASIC miner, which delivers a 2,600 MH/s hash rate.

Aside from its speed and performance, the product also claims to be power-efficient. The upcoming ASIC miner from Bitmain also boasts a power efficiency of 0.85 J/M. For comparison, the Antimer E9 has a power draw of 2,665 W while the Phoenix miner pulls 3,000W. Using Bitmain's miner might just offer users 14.8% lesser power consumption.

Unfortunately, the company has not yet revealed the price of the new Antminer E9 but tech enthusiasts speculate that it could sell above $20,000. Linzhi's Phoenix Ethereum miner sells between $11,300 and $13,700. Tom's Hardware believes that even at a $30,000 price, the upcoming product could still be a "very attractive option for mining farms."

The site says "GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards start at $2,500 nowadays, and purchasing 32 of them comes down to a whopping $80,000."
