Black Eyed Peas, Glee fire up singles chart
The Black Eyed Peas led Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart for a 12th week on Thursday with I Gotta Feeling, while the new season of Fox's Glee enlivened proceedings.
The Fox musical's cast recording of Rihanna's hit Take A Bow was the top debut at No. 46. Don't Stop Believin', another song covered by the motley crew of musical misfits, re-entered the chart at No. 78. The cast version of the Journey classic initially appeared in May after the Glee pilot aired.
Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' Empire State of Mind debuted at No. 50. Expect a rise into the top five next week, following the rapper's performance on Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards.
The Black Eyed Peas have ruled the Hot 100 for 24 consecutive weeks when the hip-hop group's previous hit Boom Boom Pow is factored in. I Gotta Feeling received a download boost last week following September 10 performances on both The Oprah Winfrey Show and NBC's NFL Kickoff Special.
The next five songs were also unchanged: Jay Sean featuring Lil Wayne's Down at No. 2, Miley Cyrus' Party In the U.S.A. at No. 3, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West's Run This Town at No. 4, Kings of Leon's Use Somebody at No. 5, and Taylor Swift's You Belong With Me at No. 6.
Jason Derulo's Whatcha Say rose two to No. 7, Mariah Carey's Obsessed slipped one to No. 8, Pitbull's Hotel Room Service was also down one, to No. 9, and Cobra Starship featuring Leighton Meester's Good Girls Go Bad jumped three to No. 10.
