The work for “Black Panther 2” has begun. The filming is expected to begin two years from now, but director and scriptwriter Ryan Coogler has already started working on the story of the sequel.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed in a recent interview that Coogler is “just beginning the process of outlining the story,” Screen Rant reported. Coogler was involved in writing the script of the first movie, which he also directed. It remains to be seen what the next chapter of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) will be about.

There were rumors that the villain Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) will be back in the sequel, perhaps living with his ancestors on the spiritual plane. However, Kevin Feige told Bet previously that there is no truth to the rumor because Coogler hadn’t finished the script, which means that even he didn’t know who would be in the film.

The only confirmed cast member of “Black Panther 2” is Boseman, who will be reprising his titular role. The other cast members can only be announced once the script is finished and approved.

The other major cast member who is expected to return is Martin Freeman, who played the role of CIA agent Everett K. Ross in the 2018 movie. In a previous interview with Collider, Freeman said that as far as he knew he will be in the sequel, but he didn’t have an official confirmation back then.

Since the script of the movie isn’t ready yet, even Freeman doesn’t know what will happen. As far as the production is concerned, it is expected to start in 2021.

“Black Panther 2” is a part of Marvel Phase 5, which means that the fans will have to wait for a while before their favorite superhero returns on screen. The sequel is slated to be released on May 6, 2022.
