Melissa Ann Weeks, the Canadian woman nicknamed the “Black Widow,” has been charged with attempting to kill her husband.

According to the Toronto Sun, Weeks, 77, and her husband, Fred Weeks, 75, were staying at a bed and breakfast in North Sydney when he became ill and was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Police were called to the hospital Sunday morning after hospital staff became suspicious.

"Further investigation led police to believe the man's spouse matches the identity of a woman with a previous criminal history of fraud and manslaughter charges, and that she could be responsible for this man's illness," Cape Breton police said in a release.

The man has since been released from hospital.

Multiple news outlets are reporting that police got a search warrant and arrested Weeks at her New Glasgow, N.S., home Monday.

The woman was previously known as Melissa Ann Friedrich, the Sun reports.

Prosecutor Diane McGrath told reporters Friday that Weeks' bail hearing will be Tuesday.

The recent conviction is not the first for Weeks as she was convicted of manslaughter in 1992 in the death of a previous husband whom she drugged and ran over twice with a car. In 2001, she was convicted of manslaughter in the death of her former husband Gordon Stewart, who was drugged before she ran over him with a car a decade earlier near Halifax. She was sentenced to six years in prison, and served just two years.

In 2005, Friedrich was convicted for theft from a Florida man she had met on an online dating site. She was sentenced to five years in prison.

She's believed to have at least 13 aliases, and is known as the Internet Black Widow because she often meets men online, reports said.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has reported that the justice who married the couple later warned Fred Weeks after seeing a news story about his new wife.
