Black Widow death

The next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe saga is a prequel to the now-deceased Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow's story. And just like with any Marvel flick, it is expected to feature plenty of crossovers and cameos from some other favorite MCU characters.

The film, led by Scarlett Johansson, is already guaranteed to feature at least one major MCU member: Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by William Hurt, albeit a de-aged version of the character. This has been confirmed, as he has already made his appearance in the “Black Widow” trailer, leading fans to speculate exactly when parts of this story will take place. But he may not be the only MCU character to star.

Ahead of the movie's May 2020 release, Screen Rant has offered up some of their own predictions for even more characters that could appear. Considering this movie is set to jump around a lot during Black Widow’s life as a crime fighter, there are plenty of characters to choose from, dead or alive.

The outlet speculates that a deceased character could make a return for “Black Widow”: Tony Stark. The theory is that “Captain America: Civil War” has plenty of previously unreleased footage, featuring both Romanoff and Stark interacting with one another. These are what’s rumored to pop up in the new film.

Similarly, Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) are all speculated by the outlet to possibly appear, likely through archival footage or deleted scenes. The majority of “Black Widow” reportedly takes place between the two peak moments of “Civil War” and “Infinity War,” which features the aforementioned characters in major battles and, perhaps most importantly, when Black Widow forms the New Avengers between these two films with Falcon and Captain America.

Finally, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) could make a cameo, but his role could potentially be a little more than a re-purposed deleted scene. Fury’s role in the entire saga has been a sort of backbone for the Avengers, bringing them all together and weaving himself in and out of the plot when he chooses. Whether Jackson would play a minor role or a major one, it would be on par with other MCU films, such as “Iron Man 2,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
