'The Blacklist' Season 3 Spoilers: Leonard Caul, AKA The Man Who Cracked The Fulcrum, Returns In Episode 4
A tweet from the official account for NBC's "The Blacklist" Wednesday promised that "unholy alliances will be formed" in Season 3's upcoming episode 4, "The Djinn." While the most obvious alliance the cryptic tweet could be referring to would be the episode 3 cliffhanger partnership between Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) and suspended FBI director Cooper (Harry Lennix), another familiar face from the past will be showing up to lend a hand -- Leonard Caul (Ned Van Zandt).
Fans will have to think back to Season 2 to recall Caul (pun intended). After Red (James Spader) was shot by Cabal assassins, he told Liz (Megan Boone) to track down Caul. She did not have to work to hard, as she ended up stumbling upon an armed Caul outside of Red's apartment. Caul was the target of a previous Cabal assassination plot, but he managed to survive the attack and disappear into hiding for year. However, Alan Fitch had wanted Red and Caul to meet. Caul eventually helped Liz decipher the Cabal and unearth all of the shadow organization's blackmail files.
So, what is Caul's mission in Season 3? That remains unclear. However, a tweet from Ned Van Zandt Thursday, featuring a picture of the actor beside "Blacklist" co-star Amir Arison (who plays Aram) and retweeted by the show's official account seems to confirm the character's return to the series. Will he help Red and Liz clear their names? Will he be helping Tom and Cooper? Maybe he will just be palling around with Aram! Fans will have to wait to find out.
Meanwhile, the synopsis for the new episode reveals that Red and Liz will seek out the help of a mysterious woman, known as the Djinn, who is said to be able to make any fantasy become a reality. The Djinn also does not appear to have a conscience, as the promo reveals that her clients' "fantasies" include murder, torture and revenge. That will suit Liz just fine. Revenge is her goal. In one scene in the promo Liz comes face to face with the Djinn and makes a dangerous request.
"I'm interested in what you deeply desire," the Djinn tells Liz.
"I want the people who did this to pay for what they did," says Liz.
"The Blacklist" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC. Watch the promo for episode 4 below:
