BLACKPINK's 'Born Pink' Grabs No. 1 Spot On Billboard 200 Chart
BLACKPINK's latest album "Born Pink" scored the quartet's first No. 1 on Billboard's 200 albums chart.
"Born Pink" - the K-pop girl group's second full-length studio album - is its first album that landed at No. 1 on Billboard 200 chart dated Oct. 1. It is also the first album from a girl group that is placed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in over a decade following Danity Kane's "Welcome to the Dollhouse' in April 2008.
Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States through equivalent album units which are counted through album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
One album sale is equivalent to one unit or 10 individual tracks sold from an album or 3,750 ad-supported streams or 1,250 paid on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album, Billboard explained.
In addition, the newly-released album from the "Ice Cream" singers is their second top 10 album that entered the said chart. Their first full-length album, "The Album," peaked at No. 2 on Billboard 200 in October 2020.
"Born Pink" is this year's third album by a South Korean act to top the Billboard 200 following BTS' "Proof" and Stray Kids' "Oddinary."
Earlier, music fans hailed "Born Pink" as their favorite new music in a Sept. 16 poll. The eight-track album beat other fresh releases like Charlie Puth's "I Don't Think That I Like Her," Marcus Mumford's self-titled album, and Fletcher's "Girl of My Dreams," among others.
The album's lead single, "Pink Venom," also grabbed the No. 22 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month.
The group's main rapper, Lisa, explained that BLACKPINK always tries to improve its music by discussing the areas that need more creative outcomes.
"Before our comebacks, we always get into lengthy conversations about what we can do to improve. We try to bring out the best outcomes by discussing our thoughts on music videos, outfits, choreography, and even the littlest details such as hair colors," she said.
