- Nichols issues a public apology for Lisa after fans lash out over her accusations
Blackpink member Lisa has reportedly been accused of plagiarism by YouTuber and choreographer Cierra Nichols.
The Thailand-born K-pop star recently uploaded a dance cover of QUIN and 6LACK’s “Mushroom Chocolate,” but she was quickly called out by Nichols for allegedly copying her choreography without credit. Nichols then took to her Instagram Stories and shared a message she wrote railing at the Blackpink member.
"In today's episode of 'Let's Steal from Black People' a Korean singer gets 7.8 million views in a day using most of your choreography. Love that for us," she wrote.
On her Twitter account she also wrote, “Convinced people can't read. I know to credit someone if I clearly pulled from it. I seen the inspiration the girl looks great."
Nichols also responded to a comment on her YouTube video declaiming against Lisa and the K-pop singer's dance performance. The comment said the user only took notice of Nichols’ choreography because of Lisa’s dance cover. Nichols replied, "Because of Lisa and her choreographer using my moves."
See the screenshots of Nichols’ responses below. The original posts have already been deleted by the choreographer.
As for Nichols’ dance cover, which was uploaded a month before Lisa’s, her choreography style did have notably similar takes but not enough for the YouTuber and choreographer to accuse the K-pop singer of copying her completely.
The Blackpink member’s cover showed Lisa performing the dance moves while lying on the floor, but she also stood up in several parts of the performance. Meanwhile in Nichols’ dance cover, most of the routine was done on the floor instead of standing up. See both dance covers below.
Hundreds of the Blackpink singer’s fans quickly came to her defense, lashing out the choreographer’s uncalled for remarks. Blinks, the K-pop girl group’s fandom, addressed Nichols’ statements, calling them false accusations that they believe were rashly pitched against their K-pop icon. The fanbase also urged Nichols to issue an apology to the K-pop star.
The fans' constant attack against Nichols also drove her to turn off the comments section of her YouTube page. The choreographer also wrote a public apology addressed to the Blackpink member and the fanbase which she posted on Sunday (April 26).
It was reported that Lisa has yet to respond to the tumult caused by the accusations against her dance performance.
