Blackpink's Lisa Reveals Struggles Of Performing Solo: 'I Can't Take Energy From Anybody'
Lisa's foray into the music scene as a solo artist came almost like a breeze as she's already known as one-fourth of the highly successful girl group Blackpink. However, the 25-year-old singer has admitted that she also had a few struggles when she went solo.
Asked to describe how she felt when she stood on stage as a solo act, the Thai-native artist told Rolling Stone magazine, "I was nervous. Very nervous."
The "Lalisa" singer then explained that performing with other Blackpink members is easy because their energy rubs off on her, pushing her to become more engaged in the performance.
"Normally when the four of us are together — let's say (Rosé) gives her 100 percent. Then the rest of us can feel it onstage. And unconsciously I also get this energy of 'Shoot, I need to do more too.' We boost each other in that way," she said.
"But if I stand alone, it's different. I can't take energy from anybody. It just has to come from me. And the fans just watch only me. It was a huge burden," she continued.
Lisa went on to share that she had to overcome her nervousness so she could give her best in all her solo activities. She also revealed one thing she believes she needs to improve on: giving interviews.
"It's so hard to express myself through language. Even in Thai. Like, when you ask, 'Do you have anything to say to your fans?’ In my head, there are so many things, but I don't know which words to use," she said.
Apparently, Lisa went to a school where she spoke only Thai until sixth grade. Afterward, she attended a school that used only English.
"I'm completely confident expressing myself through my body… But when it comes to speaking, it's hard for me," she shared.
Blackpink is featured on the cover of Rolling Stone's June issue, a special-edition box set that reportedly includes the group cover and four individual covers. It also comes with an exclusive mini zine as well as photo prints and a sticker sheet.
Interestingly, Blackpink is the first Asian female musical group to grace the cover of the prestigious publication. It's also the third female singing act to make it on the magazine's cover, after Spice Girls and Destiny's Child.
