Blackpink's 'Lovesick Girls' Music Video Sets New YouTube Record
KEY POINTS
- Blackpink's "Lovesick Girls" has become the fastest K-pop girl group music video to cross 10 million views
- "Lovesick Girls" is the title track of Blackpink's first full-length album
- Blackpink collaborated with Cardi B for the song "Bet You Wanna"
Blackpink has set a new YouTube record after the music video of the K-pop girl group's latest single, "Lovesick Girls," hit 10 million views within 53 minutes of its release.
With this feat, Blackpink now holds the record for the fastest Korean girl group music video to reach 10 million views. Interestingly, the previous record was also held by the band. The music video for Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo's single “Ice Cream” with Selena Gomez achieved the 10 million views target in two hours and 55 minutes, Soompi reported.
"Lovesick Girls" is the title track of their first full-length album, simply titled "The Album," which contains eight songs in total. Other songs include "How You Like That," "Ice Cream," "Pretty Savage," "Crazy Over You" and more.
Cardi B also collaborated with the girls on one track in the album, "Bet You Wanna."
On Friday, Oct. 2, Blackpink held a special Naver V Line broadcast where Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo spoke about working with the rapper.
Rosé described "Bet You Wanna" as "very refreshing." Jennie said it was "fun and happy—a song that makes you want to sing along."
"The moment that you hear Cardi B’s rap, it’ll make you go, 'Ahh,'" Jennie added.
In a chat with CNN, the girls spoke about their music influences and said Gomez, Cardi B and Lady Gaga have had an impact on their music.
"We grew up listening to a wide variety of music. We all grew up in different areas, but I would say some of the amazing people we collaborated with we all grew up listening to and we are big fans of them," Rosé said.
"[Cardi B] is our first rap feature," Jennie said. "We are so excited to share this music with you guys."
Blackpink caught international attention in 2016 with its hit single "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du," and over the years, the K-pop singers have become global superstars.
But the girls haven’t let fame get to their heads. Rosé said they depend on each other to keep themselves grounded.
"We are all workaholics in our deep self and we love to work," she revealed. "I don't think we get overwhelmed by the fame, at least no yet. We try to not let it go to our heads. We try to talk to each other, we don't keep it to ourselves which helps a lot ... we just look around and we have somebody just like me, thinking about the same stuff, telling me what I was thinking in my head."
