Blackpink's Rosé Sets Record For Highest First Week Album Sales By Korean Female Soloist

Blackpink’s Rosé has set a new record with her debut album "R," by achieving the highest sales by a Korean female soloist in its first week of release.
Rosé recently made her solo debut with "R" on March 12. However, the physical copies of her album were released by YG Entertainment on March 16.
According to Hanteo Chart, the album sold 282,674 copies within 24 hours, breaking the record which was previously set by K-pop star IU’s "Love Poem," which had sold over 147,856 copies within its first week of release, Soompi reported.
"R" also ranked first on Hanteo’s daily album chart on Wednesday. This also won her the record for the second-highest first-day sales achieved by Korean female artists. Rosé was bested by none other than her K-pop group Blackpink, which had sold over 589,310 copies of "The Album" in 24 hours.
Rosé’s album also gained over 500,000 stock pre-orders consisting of 404,318 CDs, 49,058 KiT versions and 52,129 LPs from regions including South Korea, the U.S., Japan and China, KPop Hit reported.
The album also made an impressive entry into Spotify as the lead track "On The Ground" debuted at the No. 8 spot on Spotify’s daily Global Top 50 chart with 3,262,615 streams in 24 hours. It set the record for the most streams achieved by a song from Korean solo artists on the platform. The B-side track "Gone" grabbed the No. 11 spot with 2,945,783 streams.
"On The Ground" also attained the No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in at least 51 different regions including the U.S., Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, France, Greece, Canada, Chile, Portugal, Turkey, Macau, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and more, Soompi reported. The music video for the single gained over 39 million views within 24 hours of its premiere.
The singer also has the highest album sales achieved by a YG Artist in one day. Previously, WINNER’s Mino held the record with 74,921 sales for his album titled "Take."
Meanwhile, Rosé also launched her own YouTube Channel named ROSÉ on March 17. In the first video she uploaded, the singer talked about her activities with Blackpink, her journey as a solo artist, and also shared clips from her childhood.
