Blue Cheese Recall: Flat Creek 'Heavenly Blue' Recalled For Possible Salmonella Contamination
About 200 pounds of Flat Creek Farm & Dairy Heavenly Blue blue cheese were recalled for possible contamination, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) said on Wednesday.
According to the recall, the blue cheese may have been contaminated with Salmonella enteritidis. No illnesses have been reported in connection with blue cheese.
However, all purchasers -- spread across Alabama, Georgia and Florida, including three online orders -- have been notified of the potential contamination. The recalled product had the lot code 130912XHB. Nearly 90 percent of the product has been collected and destroyed.
The Georgia Department of Agriculture found the contamination, which lead to the recall, during a routine sampling some time before Wednesday. The Swainsboro, GA-based company said it identified the source and will prevent it from affecting future batches.
The FDA said any consumers who purchased the Flat Creek Farm & Dairy Heavenly Blue blue cheese should return it to the place of purchase or call the Flat Creek Dairy & Farm at 479-237-0123 for more information.
