BMW XM Hybrid To Begin Production In Late 2022

BMW on Tuesday unveiled its new XM hybrid vehicle that is scheduled to begin production in late 2022 in South Carolina. The German company seeks to have 50% of its deliveries be electric by 2030.

The new production car will be available under the company’s “M” performance division and it will feature a V-8 engine with 750 horsepower with 737 pounds of torque. A BMW spokesperson said the new car is the“most powerful BMW M car ever to go into series production.”

BMW says the U.S. will be the most important sales market for the new vehicle.

"The XM's design will incorporate the elements of BMW's SUVs, M Power, its luxury class and electrification altogether. Its thin daytime running lights and horizontal kidney grilles give an aggressive look when approaching other cars on the road. It's 'big for presence,' " Marcus Syring, BMW’s head of design, told Car and Driver.

The driver will be surrounded by an instrument panel of aged, tanned leather and a carbon copper weave trim. The backseat will be wrapped in black leather and the cushions are wrapped in a velvet-like, aquamarine-shade petrol fabric, according to Motor Trend.
