KEY POINTS

  • Binance announced the BNB Chain roadmap at the BNB Chain Revelation Summit
  • The block size will be increased from 125 million to 200 million as per the roadmap
  • BNB Beacon Chain will open-source the Binance decentralized exchange (DEX)

BNB Chain, previously known as the Binance Smart Chain or BSC chain, has introduced a year-long technical roadmap that aims to develop its ecosystem and introduce new features as well. The roadmap includes intentions to enhance the network's decentralized structure as many developers have pointed out the chain's centralized features.

The roadmap was announced at the BNB Chain Revelation Summit Tuesday. At the event, global leaders from popular blockchain projects witnessed the discussion of the roadmap and the Web 3.0 future.

A roadmap for a project includes all the upcoming upgrades and features that will be integrated in a specified period of time. The BNB Chain roadmap introduced the next interaction of the Most Valuable Builder incubation program for aspiring Web 3.0 software engineers.

Earlier this year, the rebranding of the Binance Chain and Binance Smart Chain to BNB Chain after their merger led to the creation of a multi-chain infrastructure layer that supported the new BNB ecosystem, and governance mechanisms.

"In terms of the work in the upcoming months, we will finally open source the BNB Beacon Chain. Secondly, BNB Chain will become more decentralized. BNB Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain will increase the size of the validator set this year with Euler Upgrade," said Chief Scientist 'V.'

Some key features to be added in Q2 include increasing the block size, also called the gas cap, from 125 million to 200 million, which will improve the speed and efficiency of the network followed by the introduction of BEP-127, which will allow BSC Mainnet validators to schedule emergency maintenance without decreasing the performance of the mainnet.

"In Q2 2022, BNB Beacon Chain will open-source the Binance decentralized exchange (DEX) and make it available to developers to build on. Developers can look forward to gaining access to the DEX matching engine code that will become free to use and build on," confirmed the announcement.
