Boasson Hagen charges towards Team Sky’s first Tour de France win
Edvald Boasson Hagen of Team Sky could feel the charge of riders on either side of him as he approached the line. He pushed harder and just beat HTC's Matthew Goss and yellow jersey race leader Thor Hushovd (Garmin) for the win in Stage 6 of the Tour de France.
The win came on a final uphill climb that saw numerous attacks by various teams at different times. But it was Boasson Hagen of Team Sky that timed his attack perfectly about 800 meters from the finish and held on.
Hushovd continued his stellar defense of the yellow jersey and now holds it for the fifth day. Hushovd was congratulatory of his fellow countryman Boasson Hagen from Norway.
RadioShack's Levi Leipheimer slipped on the side of the road about 4 km from the finish and could not recover to rejoin the peloton. Since he was outside the 3 km zone, he ended up losing 1:05 to the other GC favorites.
Tomorrow's Stage7 is a very flat stage from beginning to end and should see a field sprint for the finish.
