Bob Weinstein Says He Knows Brother Harvey Cheated: ‘I Was Verbally Abused’
Bob Weinstein is finally opening up about his brother Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault scandal.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the producer revealed that he was aware that Harvey cheated, but thought that everything that happened between him and the women he hooked up with were consensual.
“I actually was quite aware that Harvey was philandering with every women he could meet. I was sick and disgusted by his actions. But that’s the extent of what I knew,” he said.
Weinstein also admitted to being surprised by the New York Times article that claimed Harvey has been “sexually harassing women for three decades.” “I was not aware of the kind of predator that he was. And the way he convinced people to do things? I thought they were all consensual situations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Weinstein also said that his brother verbally abused him for many years. At one point, he also hurt him physically. The part of owner of The Weinstein Company clarified that he isn’t asking for anyone’s pity and said that it isn’t his intention to put himself on the same level as all of the women his brother hurt.
“But it’s a complicated situation when it’s your brother doing the abusing to you as well. Harvey didn’t break my nose, but he got physical and there were several people there, and he assaulted me. And I should’ve done something then,” he said.
In his shocking revelation, Weinstein also said that he and his brother ended their “relationship” several years ago because he could stand being around him anymore. He also claimed that he asked Harvey to seek help multiple times within the past five years. “He avoided getting the help. We begged him,” he said.
After multiple women came forward about Harvey’s sexual assault, the producer finally decided to enter a rehab facility to treat his sex addiction. According to the Guardian, Harvey has already started his in-patient treatment at an Arizona head spa and will be heading to a second facility in Europe for the final stages of his program.
His rep told the New York Times, “Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance.”
