The body of a Michigan doctor was found by divers Tuesday under a frozen pond near his home.

Dr. Bolek Payan, a physician at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, went missing last week in Jackson, Michigan, which is about 40 miles west of Ann Arbor.

Authorities say that Payan's vehicle was found at his home. He had no contact with his employer, family or friends since his disappearance.

Payan was last seen leaving his home on foot around 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the Blackman-Leoni Public Safety Department. The department was able to gain access to the password-protected security cameras in order to view the footage of Payan's last moments. Divers recovered his body around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday "from a pond on the property near his residence."

On Tuesday, authorities provided updates on the investigation which had concerned residents in nearby communities over the holiday weekend.

"The property had been checked with K-9 dogs, drones and on foot. After not locating anything on land, holes were cut in the ice of a pond on the property yesterday and divers located Dr. Payan's body under the ice today," police wrote in a Facebook post.

"Detectives believe Dr. Payan would have been deceased, prior to when he was reported missing, due to the weather conditions on the day that he left his residence and the fact that he was in the water."

In the post, police thanked the "Jackson County Dive Team, Michigan Search and Rescue, J-DART, the neighbors, and the public for their assistance during this incident," and provided condolences for the family.

"Our thoughts are with Dr. Payan's family and friends," the post concluded.
