Body Modification Enthusiast Suffers Vision Loss After Getting Eyeballs Tattooed
Body modification enthusiast Amber Luke, who has allegedly spent more than $25,000 on such extreme procedures is alleging that she went blind for about three weeks after getting her blue eyeballs tattooed.
It felt like her eyeballs were poked with 10 shards of glass during the procedure, she told The Sun. Luke aka ‘Blue-Eyes White Dragon’ revealed that she was fascinated with body modification procedures at 16 and now 8 years later, she is thrilled about getting such ‘extreme’ procedures.
Regarding the eyeball tattoo procedure that got brutal, she has told Barcroft media that it was unfortunate that her artist went too deep into her eyeballs. She added that her aim was to get fully covered in tattoos by next year. “If your eyeball procedure’s done correctly, you’re not supposed to go blind at all. I was blind for three weeks. That was pretty brutal,” she said.
According to Dr. Maththew Schulmann, a Manhattan-based board-certified plastic surgeon who discussed eyeball tattooing with Fox News opined that the procedure involves breaking through an eye’s outer coating which can cause infections. The procedure is carried out by injecting an eye dye just beneath the outer layer of one’s eyeball in such a way that it will stain and color the surface of one’s eye. But since it is required to get through the outer coating, injecting any sharp object could increase the chance of infections, corneal infections, tears or rupturing of the entire eyeball.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons said that such extreme body modifications at a board-certified plastic surgeon’s offices are a rarity and that such modifications are achieved via dermal and solid silicone implants in procedures done by body modifying artists.
Luke has over 140,000 followers on Instagram with whom she shares her latest trips to the tattoo parlor. One of her recent updates featured her winged eyeliner tattoo and another revealed her blue-and pink-dyed mermaid hair. The tattoo enthusiast’s mother told Barcroft Media that she has done her best to support her daughter throughout her body modification journey. She also revealed that her daughter never found herself beautiful and that Luke was diagnosed with depression at the age of 14. And through such extreme body modifications, she said, she has watched her daughter’s confidence improve.
