Bollywood Actors Hrithik Roshan, Alia Bhatt Invited To Be New Members Of The Academy

Bollywood actors Hrithik Roshan and Alia Bhatt are among the 819 celebrities who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

According to Variety, if the actors were to accept the invite, they would be eligible to vote at next year’s Academy Awards. Apart from Roshan and Bhatt, six more Indians have been sent invitations to become members of the prestigious organization.

The other notable Indian personalities included on the list were Neeta Lulla (costume designer), Nandini Shrikent (casting director), Nishtha Jain (documentary filmmaker), Vishal Anand (visual effects supervisor), Amit Madheshiya (documentary filmmaker), and Sandeep Kamal (visual effects supervisor).

All the aforementioned people join the elite class of celebrities who have previously been invited to join the Academy. Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Madhuri Dixit, Aamir Khan, Soumitra Chatterjee, Tabu, and Deepika Padukone are some of the names that were invited to be part of the organization.

David Rubin, president of The Academy, welcomed the new class of members and noted that the organization continues to “embrace” extraordinary talent from around the world.

“The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travelers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now,” Variety quoted Rubin, as saying.

The media outlet also reported that almost 49% of the new invitees are international and represent 68 countries. Also, 45% of this year’s invitations have been sent to women while people of color comprise 36% of the total of invitees this year.

“We look forward to continuing to foster an Academy that reflects the world around us in our membership, our programs, our new Museum, and in our awards,” Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement given to the publication.

Other celebrtities who have recently been invited include Awkwafina, Zazie Beetz, Ana de Armas, Cynthia Erivo, Matt Reeves, and a handful of actors from this year’s Best Picture winner “Parasite.” Choi Woo-Shik, Jang Hye-Jin, Lee Jung-Eun, and Park So-Dam are the actors from the South Korean movie that made it to the list of invitees.
