Bombardier Bags $648 Million German Rail Order
Bombardier Inc's transportation unit has received an order for 90 electric multiple units of the 430 series from DB Regio AG valued at $648 million.
The first units of the 430 series are to be used in the suburban-network Kleyer and are expected to enter service in December 2014.
Earlier, the unit also received orders valued at $248 million to supply trams and light rail vehicles to the Frankfurt transport authority.
The new electric multiple units have 24 electric swivel-sliding doors to facilitate easier and more rapid passenger flow. Energy-saving indirect LED lighting, integrated in the luggage racks, enhances the interior ambience. All coaches are joined together by convenient walkways.
Video monitoring cameras, combined with an open layout which allows a clear view of the train interior over its entire length, help increase safety and security for all passengers.
The sleek, modern design of the new multiple means we can provide mobility for the future, while ensuring the highest level of reliability combined with comfort and hospitality. That's just the concept tomorrow's regional transit has been looking for, Dr. Klaus Baur, Chairman of the Management Board Bombardier Transportation Deutschland said.
Till date 87 trains of the same series 430 have already been ordered for the Stuttgart region and production of these is underway.
