'Borderlands 3' Takes Features From 'Apex Legends,' Other Modern Shooter Games
Gearbox Software has released an official video about the pinging system in “Borderlands 3.” This feature was originally seen in Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale “Apex Legends.” So far, Borderlands 3 is shaping up to be one of the modern shooter games in the market.
As seen on the video, Amara is seen pointing out treasure chests, explosive barrels, and other points of interests in the area. The character also has some brief comments on the things she points out, maybe it be taking notice of an unopened box of loot or threatening an enemy. This new feature can help players communicate faster without the need for typing or talking about every detail of their plans
Overall, “Borderlands 3” has been shaping up as a well-adjusted game release of its time with the features it adds on the playable characters. So far, the playable characters can mantle over obstacles, slide, breakable cover, and have loot instancing. Most of these features come from other first person shooters and even Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games-like (MMORPGs) titles.
Activision’s Call of Duty was one of the first shooters to introduce the feature that allowed characters to climb over obstacles that aren’t too high for the characters. This feature changed the way of how players move in shooters and made the game faster.
For the sliding maneuver, this was seen in “Warframe” and “Apex Legends” where players can use the momentum of their sprint to slide to move forward or even travel through sloped terrain faster. Meanwhile, the breakable cover was seen in “Gears of War” and the “Battlefield” series which allowed players to not rely on cover shooting all the time.
Lastly, the loot instancing is found in most MMORPG titles which prevent players from getting frustrated about seeing drops that can get stolen by other players. Other loot shooter games with this feature is Activision’s “Destiny 2.”
With these new additions, “Borderlands 3” is shaping itself up to be a fast-paced shooter that many players of this generation are familiar with. For now, we can only hope that “Borderlands 3” manages to be a great game even though it hasn’t shown any original or fresh features to bring to the first person shooter genre.
