Bored Ape Yacht Club Creator Yuga Labs Teases Game-Based Metaverse Dubbed 'Otherside'

Yuga Labs, the team behind popular Non-Fungible Token (NFT) Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has teased the upcoming release of a new game-based Metaverse called Otherside.

The official Twitter account of Yuga Labs released a video featuring some elements in the BAYC ecosystem. This includes Mutant Ape Yacht Club and the recently acquired NFTs CryptoPunks and Meebits.

"See you on the Otherside in April. Powered by @apecoin," the tweet teased. Apparently, Otherside is the name of the upcoming Metaverse and AppCoin the recently launched coin, which will serve as the native token of the soon-to-launch virtual world.

The teaser video runs for more than a minute, starting with a Bored Ape Yacht Club Ape fishing. He then feels something tug his rod and hoists his catch.

The BAYC Ape sees a bottle with a DRINK Me label, which it willfully obliges. The environment changes and the BAYC Ape finds himself abducted by a flying entity.

The video features other NFT collections, including Mutant Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, Cryptoadz, Meebits, Cool Cats, nouns and World of Women. Unfortunately, there are no additional details revealed in the teaser.

Otherside, based on earlier speculations, is believed to be integrating with The Sandbox, a Metaverse also owned by Animoca Brands. Last week, Animoca tweeted that it was getting into the BAYC universe.

"Animoca Brands is excited to announce that we’ll be adopting @ApeCoin for the secret project we’ve been developing with @BoredApeYC," the tweet reads. There aren't many details on what Otherside will be. However, given the recent announcements and speculations surrounding BAYC, it appears that this has something to do with a 3D BAYC gaming experience powered by Animoca.

It is worth noting that in the absence of an official announcement, details surrounding Otherside Metaverse are highly speculative at this stage. As for the token ApeCoin, it was launched last week by ApeDAO and can be claimed by Mutant Ape Yacht Club and Bored Ape Yacht Club owners.

The token is currently available for trading on major cryptocurrency exchanges. This includes CoinBase, FTX, Gemini and eToro. ApeCoin was trading down 14.69% at $0.05002 with a 24-hour volume of $8,522 as of 5:18 a.m. ET on March 22 based on the data from CoinMarketCap.
