KEY POINTS

  • The Bose Connect app APK contains code revealing a new product
  • The code reveals that Bose is working on a new gaming headset
  • The gaming headset is actually the QC35 II headphones with a gaming microphone

Bose is known for its excellent audio equipment. One of the company's popular products is the QuietComfort 35 II, a pair of wireless noise cancelling headphones that are considered one of the best alongside Sony's WH-1000XM3. A report reveals that the company is working on a new version of the QC35 II designed for gaming purposes.

According to 9To5Google, lines of code within the Bose Connect app APK showed that the audio company is working on a device referred to as “Tibbers.” The code, found by the site's APK Insights team, revealed a few things about the upcoming device. The report indicated that the team decided to look into the APK after a new update to the Google app was released very recently.

The code was accompanied by a short video showing how the gaming headset would work. Here's what can be gleaned from the lines of code and the short video accompanying them:

  • First, the “Bose QC35 II Gaming Headset” is comprised of the original QC35 II noise cancelling headphones, and a microphone attachment.
  • Second, the gaming microphone is attached to the QC35 II headphones via the audio device's AUX port, located at the bottom of the left earcup.
  • Third, the gaming microphone must be connected to the gaming system via a wired connection to be used.
  • Fourth, connecting the gaming microphone attachment to the QC35 II headphone automatically disables the device's Bluetooth connectivity. The device will only work using a wired connection.

The video also showed how the user will be able to operate the QC35 II with the gaming microphone attached. Basically, it will still work the same way, requiring the user to push the buttons to operate it. The major difference is that it now has a dedicated microphone for gaming purposes, it's bluetooth feature is disabled, and the Bose Connect app will no longer be able to find the audio device.

All that said, there's no guarantee that the Bose QC35 II Gaming Headset will be arriving soon. It's also unclear if the so-called gaming headset will actually be just a gaming microphone attachment that will be sold to QC35 II owners, or an entirely new offering designed for gaming.
