The Boston Marathon bombing that happened back on April 15, 2013 remains one of the most unforgettable events in U.S. history, killing three people and injuring a lot of civilians. Among those injured was Adrianne Haslet-Davis, a spectator who lost a leg when two homemade pressure-cooker bombs went off that fateful day.

Years have passed and Haslet-Davis, a ballroom dancer before that tragedy, became an advocate for amputee rights. Unfortunately, she now finds herself back in the hospital after getting struck by a car at a crosswalk at Commonwealth Avenue. She shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed via her Instagram account.

"Thrown into the air and landed, crushing the left side of my body," she wrote. "I'm completely broken. More surgery to come."

Boston Police said they responded to a call for a pedestrian struck at Commonwealth. Avenue on Saturday night at around 7:15 p.m. EST. The victim was being treated by Boston Fire already when officers arrived.

According to People, the driver of the car was trying to make a left turn down Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. Due to the dark, rainy weather and Haslet-Davis wearing black, he claimed that he did not see her. The driver, whose identity has been withheld, would later on be issued an MA uniform citation for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk. The citation includes a maximum fine of $200.

The severity of Haslet-Davis' injuries was later on detailed on Facebook by her brother, Thomas Grilk. According to him, Adrianne had three broken bones and a dislocated shoulder.

Since the Boston Bombing incident, she got a prosthetic running leg and trained to compete in the Boston Marathon back in 2016. Haslet-Davis had plans to return for the 2019 Boston Marathon this coming April.

According to Boston 25 News, Heartbreak Hill Running President Dan Fitzgerald said that Haslet-Davis' recent injuries will most likely keep her from running in this year's event.

On Monday morning, Haslet-Davis thanked her followers for the prayers and support following the incident.

“I can feel your love and support and I just want to say thank you,” she added. “I’m really scared, but I think I’m in good hands.”
