Boston Red Sox Favored Over Los Angeles Dodgers Or Milwaukee Brewers In 2018 World Series
The Boston Red Sox are waiting for their 2018 World Series opponent after eliminating the Houston Astros from the MLB playoffs Thursday night. Whether it’s the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Milwaukee Brewers that ends up winning the National League Championship Series, you can bet that the American League champs will be the clear favorites to win this year’s title.
In two postseason series, Boston looked every bit like the team that won 108 games in the regular season. The Red Sox went 7-2 against the Houston Astros and New York Yankees, both of whom were 100-win teams. Boston was especially impressive against the defending champions, defeating Justin Verlander in Game 5 to win all three games in Houston. The Red Sox are a perfect 5-0 on the road in the playoffs.
Not only has Boston not lost on the road this postseason, but their 57-24 home record in the regular season was the league’s best. The Red Sox will have home-field advantage over either team that comes out of the NL.
The Red Sox entered the playoffs with nearly 3/1 World Series odds, and they’ve been more dominant than anyone. The Dodgers had 11/2 odds and the Brewers were at 9/1.
Los Angeles has a 3-2 series lead before Game 6 of the NLCS in Milwaukee Friday night. A victory for the Dodgers would give them just one more loss this postseason than the Red Sox. They would also win a series in which they didn’t have home-field advantage.
The Dodgers have been among the World Series favorites all year after nearly winning the title a season ago. With Clayton Kershaw looking dominant in two of his three starts, Los Angeles might be given a shot to at least challenge Boston.
If the Brewers want to win the NLCS, they’ll have to do it in seven games. Milwaukee has lost three out four contests against Los Angeles, including two straight on the road. After surprisingly winning the NL Central, the Brewers would be significant underdogs against the Red Sox.
Boston in a perfect 3-0 in their World Series appearances since 2004.
