Bowling Green College Student Dies After Doing 40 Shots In Fraternity Hazing Case
A student at Bowling Green State University is dead after an “alleged incident of alcohol-related hazing at an off-campus event” involving the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
The incident took place on Thursday, but the student passed away on Sunday after being kept on life support so his family could donate his organs, CBS News reports.
Stone Foltz was a sophomore majoring in business at BGU in Ohio when he attempted to join Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. However, his initiation allegedly required him to ingest “a handle” of alcohol, which is equivalent to a 1.75 mL bottle of liquor or around 40 1.5-ounce shots.
When Foltz returned to his apartment, he became ill. “I’ve never seen my roommate more drunk in his entire life,” a student, who wished to remain anonymous, said.
“He immediately went to the bathroom and was throwing up in the toilet for just 15 minutes to an hour and making himself vomit.”
Sean Alto, Foltz’s family attorney, revealed the family is looking for answers to the student’s death and is asking for privacy during their time of mourning.
“At this time we are gathering all of the facts leading to his untimely death and we have no interest in commenting on speculation,” Alto said.
“However, we do ask that you please show respect and consideration for Stone’s family. Despite their unbearable grief, they agreed to donate Stone’s organs so that others may have a second chance at life.”
The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity stated it was “horrified and outraged” by the incident, ABC News reports.
The Delta Beta Chapter of the fraternity at Bowling Green State University has been suspended, and the organization plans to punish all those involved in the hazing incident.
“As more details are confirmed, we will also pursue permanent suspension of Delta Beta Chapter as well as expulsion of all chapter members from the International Fraternity,” the fraternity said in a statement.
The university has been working and cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate Foltz’s death.
