As expected, Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home” stayed dominant at the box office in its second weekend, fending off smaller competition from “Crawl” and “Stuber.” The web-slinging sequel snatched up $45 million for another first-place finish, pushing its domestic haul to $274 million. Meanwhile, surging overseas sales have ballooned the film’s worldwide take to over $847 million.

Two weeks in, and “Far From Home” is already the biggest overseas earner in franchise history. At this pace, the coveted $1 billion dollar milestone should be passed next weekend at the earliest, despite competition from “The Lion King.”

Paramount’s well-reviewed creature-feature “Crawl” did well for itself, opening in third place with a solid $12 million against a $13.5 million budget. Starring Kaya Scodelario (“The Maze Runner”), the smaller horror film played with critics, netting an 88 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The week’s other new release was Disney and Fox’s action-comedy “Stuber,” with Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani. The film opened in fourth with a less-than-desirable $8 million against a $16 million budget. This is not the sort of opening that bodes well for further R-rated films from Fox under Disney's control.

Speaking of Disney, two of its older releases, “Toy Story 4” and “Aladdin,” remained strong, coming in second with $20 million and sixth with $5.8 million, respectively, taking the international totals for each up to $771 million and $960 million. At this pace – and taking into account the successes of “Captain Marvel” and “Avengers: Endgame,” as well as the inevitable success of “The Lion King” – we could be looking at five 2019 $1 billion Disney releases by summer’s end.
