KEY POINTS

  • Deontay Wilder would be no match for "New Mike Tyson" Daniel Dubois
  • Dubois is scheduled to fight Joe Joyce in July
  • Wilder's trilogy match against Tyson Fury will not happen until November or December this year

Fast emerging boxing prospect Daniel Dubois is already an early favorite against former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Dubbed as the “New Mike Tyson,” Dubois is predicted to knock out the American slugger in a fight that is reportedly being organized to take place in 2021.

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren has announced, per the World Boxing News, that the British champion could test his mettle against the Bronze Bomber by next year. This prompted early predictions from several boxing personalities, including Dubois’ trainer Martin Bowers, who said the potential faceoff “could be one of heavyweight boxing’s big fights of 2021.”

“It’s a fight that in about 12 months would be a fantastic one for the fans,” said Bowers.

The 22-year-old rising star is scheduled to fight Joe Joyce on July 11 at the O2 Arena. The said bout was originally scheduled for April 11 but was delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Wilder, meanwhile, is being pitted against Tyson Fury for a trilogy match – a fight that was also postponed multiple times already and is expected to not take place until November or December this year.

But while he is focused on leading Dubois to a victory over Joyce, Bowers hopes to see his fighter engage with the top-caliber heavyweight Wilder next.

“I get the appeal of Daniel and Wilder. They are two big bangers, but Daniel can also box. Right now, we have one job to do and that is beating Joe.”

Another believer of “DDD” is Bowers’ fellow trainer Tunde Ajayi, who said the youngster could serve Wilder the same fate he suffered from Fury in their rematch in February.

“I fancy Daniel to knockout Wilder. Daniel is young, hungry, and ready to go,” Ajayi said, per WBN.

“Tyson Fury was never looked on as a puncher but look what he did to Deontay Wilder. Daniel is a KO artist so what’s to say and he can’t do the same to Wilder. “Wilder is still a danger and will be for Fury, but Daniel is only going to get better and is young enough to bounce back if he loses,” he added.

Unscathed in 14 fights, Dubois is on his way to becoming one of the most dangerous knockout artists in boxing today after having won all but one of his cards by way of knockout. On the other hand, Wilder remains on the same league despite coming off the first loss of his career as he continues to boast 41 stoppages in the 42 total victories of his professional run.
