Boxing: Freddie Roach Noticed Something Different In Floyd Mayweather
Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach said that he noticed something different from Floyd Mayweather Jr. during Pacquiao vs. Thurman fight.
Ahead of the welterweight super fight between Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman, Roach has already been vocal about team Pacquiao's thirst for a second slugfest with Mayweather. However, at some point during the Pacquiao-Thurman fight, in which Mayweather was present, Roach noticed that the undefeated champ wasn't his usual persona.
Roach has a feeling that the 42-year-old Mayweather could have felt fear upon witnessing the Filipino legend's performance against Thurman.
In an interview a few days after Pacquiao vs The, the veteran trainer revealed that Mayweather did not call anyone out like he usually does in the past. Which led to his assumption that Mayweather felt scared of Pacquiao, Manila Bulletin noted.
“He (Mayweather) didn’t stay at the fight after the decision was announced and call anyone out like he usually does. I think Manny scared him a little with that performance,” Roach revealed.
Roach has been consistent with his judgment towards Mayweather everytime the rematch with Pacquiao is being brought up.
In another interview with ESPN, Roach detailed why he truly believes the American boxer is scared to fight Pacquiao.
"In my opinion I think he's scared of Manny. That performance was so great he showed everything in that performance," Roach said.
Shane Mosley, another rival of Pacquiao has also spoken about Pacquiao and Mayweather rematch shortly after the impressive performance of the boxing legend.
Mosley believes that Pacquiao won the first fight with Mayweather. And after seeing Pacquiao beat Thurman at 40 years old, Mosley is convinced that Pacquiao will "once again" defeat the flamboyant champ, PhilStar Global reported.
"What’s sure is if Manny fought Mayweather instead of Thurman that night, he would’ve won. I actually think Manny won the first fight against Mayweather," Mosley pointed.
Meanwhile, Mayweather and Pacquiao has already started the rematch on social media. The two legendary fighters have been taking shots at each other for a few days now but there has been no solid indication that both champs are in favor of sharing the boxing ring once again.
Errol Spence and Shawn Porter are also candidates as Pacquiao's next opponent. However, Pacquiao's camp is currently interested in fighting either Danny Garcia or Mickey Garcia.
According to Pacquiao's friend and long-time trainer Buboy Fernandez, their priority now is to ensure that Pacquiao will not incur any serious damage now that he is already in his 40's, and a fight with Spence is a "high risk."
