  • Mike Tyson offers advice to Deontay Wilder
  • Wilder-Fury 3 is reportedly set in October
  • Tyson said Wilder should grow up and not give up

Boxing legend Mike Tyson offered a piece of his mind to Deontay Wilder, who is looking for revenge in his third fight against Tyson Fury reportedly set in October this year.

Tyson, a former undisputed heavyweight champion, said Wilder has to regain his confidence if the American fighter wants a better chance at redemption.

“Listen, (Wilder) didn’t fight the same fight he fought the first fight. The first fight he fought with confidence like he could win. The second fight he fought like he didn’t have no zest, no life in him. I just don’t think he was the same fighter after the first fight. He couldn’t rise to that occasion again," the 53-year-old Hall of Famer said during an interview with rapper Fat Joe on Instagram.

Wilder absorbed the first setback of his professional career after he got stunned by Fury during their rematch in February in Las Vegas where the former’s corner threw in the towel late in the seventh round as he was being punished by the much sharper Gypsy King.

The bout ended in a flat-out dominant fashion that early predictions for the trilogy already has the British fighter winning again against the Bronze Bomber.

But Iron Mike is having none of it. Speaking from experience, he said he knows a lot of things can happen inside the ring, and that Wilder can still flip the script and show the world that he is still one of the most elites in the heavyweight division.

“No (I don't expect a walkover by Fury), there’s always a chance. Everyone always has a chance. It just depends on how much they want to give in to it,” added Tyson, per Boxing Scene. If (Wilder) wants to dedicate his life to really winning this fight, anything can happen. Wilder can still make a lot of money. He shouldn’t feel sad or discouraged. He should continue to go out there and fight with a lot of zest and confidence.”

Finally, Tyson did not mince his words as he encouraged Wilder to keep pushing. “He feels like giving up, ‘Oh, my life is over. I’ve made $90 million dollars. My life is over.’ Oh God, I want to die.’ Grow up. Keep going through it until it’s really over. Well, listen, he didn’t fight the same fight as he fought the first fight.”
