  • Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is targeting a November boxing return
  • Chavez is eyeing a Gennady Golovkin fight for 2021
  • Golovkin could face Kamil Szeremeta in November

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is not ready to call it a career and has revealed his plans moving forward. The 34-year-old Mexican hopes to end 2020 with two fights, meaning he needs another to meet that goal. He plans to return to the ring next month and fight in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Chavez appears to have recovered from the two straight defeats he suffered and is ready to move forward. It all starts next month, though an opponent has yet to be named. Regardless, he already has a big name in mind for 2021: Gennady Golovkin.

"I think a good fight for the next year would be against Gennady Golovkin, I think it would be a good fight. It would serve us both a lot, we hope it can be given," Chavez told El Debate.

There is no telling if Chavez can book that fight with Golovkin, someone who has been out of action since 2019.

The fighter currently linked to GGG is Kamil Szeremeta. The clash has been rescheduled several times, with the pandemic and a calf injury singled out as the reasons for the delays.

However, The Athletic's Mike Coppinger reported, citing unnamed sources, that Golovkin and Szeremeta may finally meet with a tentative date set for Nov. 21.

Aside from that, the Kazakhstani boxer has been linked to a potential trilogy with Canelo Alvarez, but the Mexican has been dealing with internal issues that have led to a legal battle on his end.

Meanwhile, Chavez is coming off a stinging loss to Mario Abel Cazares in September, Boxingscene reported. He lost via technical decision to Cazares in the fight that was set at the heavyweight limit. Cazares had a good start in that clash, but an accidental clash of heads forced the referee to stop the fight. Going to the scorecards, the judges all ruled in favor or Cazares.

Aside from the loss, Chavez left the ring with a cut above his left eye. For him, Cazares should have been disqualified for allegedly fouling him. It was the second straight loss for the 34-year-old, having lost to Daniel Jacobs last year via technical knockout in the fifth round, ESPN reported.
