Boxing News: Evander Holyfield Accuses Mike Tyson For Slowing Down Much-Awaited Trilogy Fight
KEY POINTS
- Holyfield is growing impatient as he awaits his third fight against Tyson to be made official
- Holyfield may be starting to spark buzz on the much-awaited trilogy with Tyson
- Tyson has yet to respond on when the rubber match with Holyfield will happen
Former boxing champion Evander Holyfield is raring to fight.
The most sensible one to make, even if it is an exhibition, is the one against old foe Mike Tyson. So far, no official fight date has been set for the two boxing heavyweights, and the “Real Deal” is now growing impatient.
In a report from Boxingscene, the 58-year-old retired boxer feels that Tyson is dragging his feet to make the fight happen.
Even if it is only an exhibition fight, boxing fans expect to see some classic boxing and counterpunches from the two former foes who are now friends.
Tyson showed back in November that he remains a dangerous boxer in the ring. Though some feel he lost some sting, the “Baddest Man on the Planet” looked pretty fit against another retired boxer in Roy Jones Jr.
But for Holyfield, he feels he can put on a better show against "Iron Mike."
“Roy Jones was a good local opponent for Mike, but a fight with me would be a global event and the only fight that anyone wants to see is a fight between us," Holyfield stated.
Tyson started it all off when he showed some serious training ever since the pandemic broke out. Most questioned his capability of boxing in the ring at his age although he proved detractors wrong.
The same held for Jones who put on a good showing in that Legends Only League offering.
Holyfield, said to be the original opponent before Tyson’s camp opted for Jones, paid close attention. Now, he is making sure that the trilogy will happen.
"Getting back in my rhythm just waiting on my dance partner now, Mike Tyson, to show up," Holyfield said. "Where you at?"
In a previous post, it was mentioned that a Tyson vs. Holyfield III could be announced soon. Only weeks have passed, but nothing close to an official announcement has happened.
Ironically, another fighter interested to face Mike Tyson is Lennox Lewis. But unlike Holyfield, he made it clear that he would only fight again if the fans wanted it.
