A third fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin remains up in the air and may happen at Cinco de Mayo weekend 2019. Canelo Saul Alvarez is all set to face Daniel Jacobs on May 4 in Las Vegas, but boxing pundits are already anxious for who comes next. The name of Gennady Golovkin remains in the air and the Mexican Brawler says he is open to facing the Kazakh KO artist on a certain condition – hold one of the middleweight titles.

For the record, Alvarez currently holds the WBA and WBC titles after defeating Golovkin by majority decision last September 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Should he defeat Jacobs, the Mexican redhead would add the IBF title to his collection, Boxingscene.com reported.

So with most belts under his wing, what belt would Golovkin have to get first before he can get a trilogy fight with Alvarez? Apparently, there is the WBO title currently held by Demetrius Andrade that GGG can challenge for.

“My goal this year is to have all the belts. If Golovkin has a belt before the end of the year, then yes, we’d gladly fight him. If he doesn’t, we’ll see how it falls later, how it plays out. But right now, my first objective, my first goal, is May 4th, to pick up that belt.”

Assuming that Golovkin wants another crack at the Mexican, this is the route he must follow to make it all happen. Andrade is set to defend the title on June 15 and his opponent has yet to be named.

Golovkin, on the other hand, is set to return to the ring on June 8 at the Madison Square Garden. According to ESPN, GGG will be making his DAZN debut although it has yet to be revealed who he will be facing. There are reportedly two opponents being considered and that the catchweight will be at 164-pounds.

The names suggested as of this writing are Steve Rolls and Hassan N’Dam. Of the two, the latter seems like a more formidable opponent. N’dam is a former middleweight title-holder and holds a 37-3 record, including 21 knockouts.

Rolls, on the other hand, is 34 years old and the Canadian holds a 19-0 record. The downside is that he has not fought any notable fighters to date.

Whoever he ends up facing, Golovkin will undoubtedly be the favorite. And perhaps after that, GGG could consider the condition of Alvarez and take aim at Andrade next.
