Brad Pitt skipped the 2020 BAFTAs not for his son Maddox but for his daughter.

On Feb. 2, the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star didn’t make it to the London awards show due to a “family obligation.” Pitt sent his co-star Margot Robbie to deliver his acceptance speech, instead.

According to Us Weekly, Pitt's absence at the BAFTAs was due to his daughter’s “medical challenges.” Jolie penned an essay for TIME magazine to celebrate International Women’s Day and the “Maleficent” actress shared how it was like to see two of her children “go under the knife.”

A source told the publication that Pitt skipped the awards ceremony and opted to stay in Los Angeles to be with his daughter during the surgery. Jolie confirmed that Zarahara, 15, was one of her two girls who underwent the surgery, but didn’t name the other one. However, she noted how Vivienne looked after her older sister.

“I have watched my daughters care for one another,” Jolie wrote. “My youngest daughter studied the nurses with her sister, and then assisted the next time. I saw how all my girls so easily stopped everything and put each other first, and felt the joy of being of service to those they love.”

Pitt’s ex-wife also recognized her sons’ “supportive and sweet” nature. Jolie wrote that Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, and Knox, 11, were there throughout the process.

In February, a source told The Sun that Pitt skipped the BAFTAs to repair his broken relationship with son Maddox. Pitt and Maddox reportedly had an altercation during a flight prior to Pitt and Jolie’s split. The father and son’s relationship was badly affected after the incident. There were claims that the Pitt had been “physically abusive” toward Maddox.

Pitt wanted to repair his relationship with Maddox, so when the latter gave the former the last-minute opportunity, he jumped at it.

“Maddox gave Brad the chance to talk and he dropped everything,” a friend of Pitt told the publication.

The source said that fatherhood is the most important thing in Pitt’s life and he would do anything to reconnect with his son. Thus, when Pitt learned that Maddox was going to be around and they could have some time to bond, he dropped his trip to the U.K. But now it has been clarified that Pitt stayed in the U.S. at the time to be present during his daughter's surgery and not to mend his relationship with Maddox.
