Bradley Cooper Nabs Steven Spielberg Project Amid Irina Shayk Reconciliation Rumors
KEY POINTS
- The movie will be based on Steve McQueen's 1968 film "Bullitt"
- The project will not be a revival of the original movie
- Cooper will co-produce the project with Spielberg
Bradley Cooper will give life to Frank Bullitt for the big screen.
On Thursday, the 47-year-old Hollywood actor was named as the lead star of Steven Spielberg's new movie, which will be based on Steve McQueen's character in 1968's "Bullitt."
The project is not going to be a remake of the original film, with The Hollywood Reporter saying that Spielberg planned a new take on the tough San Francisco cop.
In the original film, McQueen portrayed the police lieutenant tasked with protecting a Chicago gangster who would be testifying against the mob. When the witness gets murdered, Bullitt takes on the brave role of tracking down the killers.
As a car-chase-filled actioner, the original "Bullitt" impressed audiences with its 11-minute car chase sequence. The film also went on to earn two Oscar nominations.
Since Spielberg's next film would not be a reboot, fans can expect an entirely new story, according to Collider.
The script for the movie is being written by Josh Singer. McQueen's son, Chad McQueen, and granddaughter, Molly McQueen, will be executive producing the project. Cooper will co-produce alongside Spielberg and Kristie Macosko McQueen.
The outlet has learned that Cooper and Spielberg have been planning the project since the pandemic started, and they have discussed putting a fresh spin on the iconic cop story.
The news came a little more than a week after Cooper made headlines for packing on the PDA with his former girlfriend Irina Shayk in New York City.
The actor and the 36-year-old model apparently looked very intimate when they walked arm-in-arm in the Big Apple while strolling with their pet dogs.
Their sighting fueled the rumors that they reconciled after vacationing in the Bahamas together. Cooper and Shayk officially split in 2019, but they remained amicable while co-parenting their 5-year-old daughter Lea De Seine.
Last weekend, Page Six reported that the couple was planning to have a second child together, with one source claiming to the outlet that they wanted to give Lea a brother or sister.
"He is on board to expand their family. They are trying to get pregnant," the source added of Cooper and Shayk.
