Brake Failure: Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger Cars Recalled
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling 119,072 of its 2011 and 2012 model year Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars because of a potential antilock braking system failure caused by an overheated power distribution center.
The defect in the power distribution center was first noticed on Dodge Charger police cruisers. Heat from components of the car can cause the plastic around a fuse to expand and contract, which can result in a loss of power to antilock braking or electronic stability control systems in Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars, a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on May 1 said.
Brake problems, like the failure of antilock braking or electronic stability control systems can lead to loss of vehicle control and increased risked of crash.
Chrysler, a subsidiary of Italian Fiat SpA (PINK: FIATY), says that no crashes, injuries or fires related to the defect have been reported. The company will replace the defective fuse on all affected vehicles free of charge and will reimburse any owners who have already paid for the repair. Notification of dealers will begin at the end of May.
For more information owners of Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger cars affected by the recall can contact the NHTSA's safety hotline at 1-88-327-4236 or visit the website. The recall number is M10.
Fiat S.p.A. (PINK FIATY) shares were up 3.11 percent to $4.64 a share Monday afternoon.
