Brand New 'Attack On Titan' Details: 10 Playable Characters, Free Mode And More
After announcing an official release date and multiple gameplay videos, Koei Tecmo has decided to unleash even more details about the highly anticipated “Attack on Titan” video game for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. The publisher has confirmed the number of playable characters in the game, Eren’s Titan form and a new mode that should please fans of the manga and anime.
Fans will be able to control 10 characters from the popular series, as the game will be set during the anime’s first season. Playable characters include Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Krista, Sasha, Connie, Jean, Levie, Hange and Erwin.
Since the game’s story takes place during the first season of the anime, the playable characters change depending on the chapter of the story, as noted by Gematsu. This should add some variety to the story mode, as it lets players experience the epic story through multiple characters.
Those who want to use specific characters anytime they want to will have to beat the main story mode to do so. Doing this unlocks a previously unannounced feature called Free Mode, which lets players control any of the 10 characters and lets them face Titans in any of the stages.
In addition to that, there will be new story chapters added in the game to flesh out the rest of the cast. There’s another interesting feature called “Investigation outside the Walls mode,” which lets players choose any of the 10 characters to undergo new missions. Rewards for these include weapon upgrades and funds, for some reason.
Siliconera has also confirmed that Eren’s Titan form will be playable in the game. It looks like this style of gameplay will be more up close and brutal, compared to the already violent zipping and slashing mechanics of the main game. Fans can expect this to be extremely satisfying after having to try and zip around a Titan to find its weakness.
“Attack on Titan” is slated for a Feb. 18 release in Japan and an unknown date for North America and Europe. The game will supposedly ease gamers into the series, so those who don’t watch the anime or read the manga can enjoy the game on its own.
