Brazil Starting Lineup: Who Replaces Neymar, Silva For World Cup Semifinal Match vs. Germany?
Brazil will have to survive Tuesday’s World Cup semifinal match against Germany without two of its best players in the starting lineup.
The Seleção will be without the services of forward Neymar, its top scoring threat, and defender Thiago Silva. Neymar will miss the rest of the World Cup with a severe spinal injury, while Silva was suspended for the match against Germany after he received a second yellow card during Brazil’s quarterfinal match against Colombia.
Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari will turn to Bernard, a 21-year-old who impressed during substitute duty at the 2013 Confederations Cup, to fill in for Neymar. Dante, a 30-year-old defender who plays professional soccer for Bayern Munich, will attempt to replace Silva, who is widely regarded as the world’s best defender. Meanwhile, fellow defender David Luiz will serve as team captain for the match.
The 2014 World Cup semifinal match between Brazil and Germany will air at 4 p.m. EDT on ESPN. Brazil’s official lineup can be viewed below.
