Brazilian Singer Ashamed Of Farting In Front Of Boyfriend Hospitalized With Trapped Gas
A Brazilian singer who was too embarrassed to fart in front of her boyfriend has been hospitalized with trapped gas.
Viviane de Queiroz Pereira, more commonly known by her stage name Pocah, recently chronicled her ordeal via Instagram Stories, according to LADBible.
The 27-year-old woman reportedly shared a few images of herself inside a hospital, where she could be seen wearing a face mask as part of the COVID-19 protocols.
Pocah also discussed her gas problems and admitted that one morning, she woke up with unbearable stomach pain. She went to the hospital and was eventually admitted there.
She then assured her fans that she was already fine.
"I woke up at 5:30 a.m. with severe stomach pains and ended up in the hospital. But that's it, guys. I'm now fine. Just an accumulation of trapped fart," the outlet quoted her as saying.
Pocah went on to share more insights about what she went through. She even blamed a TikTok thread for allegedly influencing people to ignore stomach pains. She explained that after doing exactly what the thread suggested, she was forced to undergo several medical tests to determine the actual problem.
The singer also took the opportunity to warn her sizeable following not to shy away from farting. "Girls, don't be ashamed to fart in front of your guy," the singer told her fans. "Because what's really embarrassing is not letting your guy sleep because you're in discomfort, going to hospital with your guy, and the diagnosis being 'trapped farts.'"
Pocah was born in born in Queimados in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. She started her career in 2012 with the song "Mulher do Poder," which catapulted her to popularity.
Clare Collins, a professor of nutrition and dietetics at the University of Newcastle in Australia, noted in an article that holding in a fart can lead to increased pressure, which causes discomfort. The trapped intestinal gas then can trigger abdominal distension with some gas reabsorbed into the circulation and exhaled in one's breath.
It remains unclear whether the rise in pressure in a person's rectum increases their chance of developing a condition called diverticulitis, which causes small pouches to develop in the gut lining and become inflamed. Considering this, Collins suggests that an adult person farts at least 14 times a day.
