Brazil’s Bolsonaro Says He Has ‘Mold’ In His Lungs, Dealing With Infection
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on Thursday that he had “mold” in his lungs and he was taking antibiotics for an infection.
"I just did a blood test. I was feeling kind of weak yesterday. They found a bit of infection also. Now I'm on antibiotics," Bolsonaro said in a live-stream video.
“After 20 days indoors, I have other problems. I have mold in my lungs,” he said.
Although Bolsonaro did not elaborate on the type of infection, he had tested positive for COVID-19 on July 7. His wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, tested positive Thursday for the coronavirus.
Bolsonaro has frequently downplayed the virus, calling it the “little flu” and saying his athleticism would protect him from infection. He has promoted controversial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the virus and feuded with state governors who have implemented restrictions to curb the spread of infection.
Brazil currently has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world. As of 9:40 p.m. ET, there are 2,610,102 coronavirus cases and 91,263 deaths in Brazil, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
