'Breath Of The Wild 2' News: Nintendo Keeps One Major Detail From Fans
KEY POINTS
- "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" is not the official name of the upcoming game sequel
- Nintendo is keeping the game's subtitle a secret for now
- "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" is anticipated to launch on Nintendo Switch
Japanese gaming giant Nintendo recently admitted that there are still some things about "The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2" that it has not yet shared with fans, including the official title of the game.
At the moment, Nintendo is just calling the sequel "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" for some reason. During an interview with IGN, Bill Trinen, senior product marketing manager of Nintendo of America, revealed the team is keeping the official name of the game a secret, for now. The sequel reportedly has a subtitle, but it has not been revealed since it could give away what the game is about.
Trinen admitted that "As for why we're holding back on the name, you'll just have to stay tuned because, obviously, Zelda names are kind of important." "Those subtitles… they start to give little bits of hints about maybe what's going to happen," the executive added. Previous "Zelda" games bear subtitles that directly refer to either a crucial item in the game or important concepts or themes.
This is especially true with "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and "The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker." Trinen said fans could still call the upcoming sequel "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2," adding that "[Breath of the Wild 2] is going to be shorthand and it's natural for people to want to find a shorthand way to frame it. We're still calling it the sequel to Breath of the Wild."
Nintendo rolled out the gameplay trailer of "Breath of the Wild 2" at its Nintendo Direct E3 2021 presentation on June 15. The brief teaser is just less than a couple of minutes in length but has now earned around 5 million views on Nintendo's official YouTube channel. The highly anticipated sequel is scheduled to release sometime in 2022.
For now, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2" is expected to launch on the Nintendo Switch, although some fans are hoping that it would be one of the launch titles of the heavily rumored Switch Pro.
