Brian Laundrie Remains Update: Florida Woman Spends 5 Hours A Day Searching For More Evidence
A Florida woman with a background in criminal justice has been searching the Carlton Reserve for the remaining bones of Brian Laundrie, according to a TikTok video posted on Monday.
The search by the woman, whose name is not disclosed, comes weeks after officials discovered a partial amount of Laundrie's skeletal remains.
There is hope that if the additional remains are found, it could help determine Laundrie's cause of death. Laundrie's remains were located on Oct. 21. after he disappeared on Sept. 17.
The video shows the woman using a stick to sift through the swamp and notes her efforts. The woman and her daughter have spent the last 10 days searching for at least five hours a day and plan to continue the search, The Sun noted.
The TikTok account Chroniclesofolivia, or “Olivia,” has been independently covering updates about the Gabby Petito and Laundrie case since the case began. The account has 1.2 million followers.
One user commented on the original video, “All it takes is for her to find the other part of his skull…. It could be a big break in the case since the cause of death is inconclusive.”
Others have been dismissive of her efforts. One user commented, “She’s bringing back her college years anyway she can. ‘Let it be.’” More comments on the video say, “no one cares” and that her searching is "a joke."
Petito was reported missing on Sept. 11. Laundrie, who was engaged to Petito, had returned home from their cross-country road trip without her. Petito was declared dead on Sept. 21 when her remains were found at Grand Teton National Park. Her family has since started the Gabby Petito Foundation in support of domestic violence victims.
